Installation

The Fireplace DraftStopper is very easy to install or remove.

First, take a flashlight and carefully inspect the firebox up to and including the damper. Insure that there are no sharp or jagged pieces of mortar, metal or protruding screws etc. If you find any of these impediments they should be removed or hammered flat so there is no danger of tearing the Fireplace DraftStopper urethane pillow.

If your damper has a handle that will interfere with installation you have several options:

1. Remove the handle.

2. The masonry (rectangular) model has 5 slittable sealed areas to accommodate a damper handle. Be very careful not to cut into the sealed area. Make the cut a little smaller than the handle to minimize air leakage.

3. The metal (round) model of The Fireplace DraftStopper is shaped to curl snugly around a damper handle; the two 'tails' wrap around the handle and provide a good seal.

Use a brush or scraper to remove excess soot to ensure a cleaner seal.

Remove the product from the package and assemble the prop device following the enclosed diagram. Blow a few breaths of air into the inflation tube to give the Fireplace DraftStopper some shape. Use the handle of the prop to position the Fireplace DraftStopper in the firebox just below the damper.

Slide the locking wedge to set the proper height for the prop to rest on the floor of your fireplace.

Breath air into the inflation tube until the Fireplace DraftStopper seals the firebox.

The Fireplace DraftStopper is easily removed to enjoy a fire. Turn the inflation tube valve to let enough air out of the Fireplace DraftStopper to break the seal. Using the prop handle remove the deflated pillow and place it into a large plastic garbage bag for clean storage. When the fireplace has completely cooled you can safely reinsert the product.
